The Inside Scoop With CeCe Martinez
You’ve heard of secret shoppers, people who shop at businesses and then tell the owners about their experience? Well, I’m a secret writer – I'm here to tell YOU about my patient experience (after all, we all need to stick together!). Today I’m talking about laser hair removal and the fact that I’m so happy I don’t EVER have to coordinate a waxing appointment with a beach vacation ever again!
You see, as a young woman growing up with four brothers and a militant father, I wasn’t allowed to shave, pluck or wax. They all wanted me hairy, and as unattractive as possible to avoid male attention. I am now grown, and after years of shaving, waxing, plucking, and threading, I finally broke down and started to investigate Laser Hair Removal. Here are a few pearls of wisdom I found on my journey.
What is Laser Hair Removal
In simple terms, the laser zaps the skin which forces energy into the hair follicle. The energy swirls downward towards the bulb of the follicle where it explodes like a stick of dynamite. Ok, that is a slight exaggeration, but you get the idea. Basically, the energy from the laser weakens your body’s ability to grow hair. The process takes multiple treatments. I’m signed up for the Uptown/Downtown (Bikini/Underarm) and my membership is 8 treatments scheduled 6 weeks apart.
How To Prepare For Laser Hair Removal
The night before my treatment, I was told to shave my bikini with a brand-new razor. I thought to myself “PREASURE! What shape do I choose?” Triangle? Line? Nothing? I opted for a tight triangle. Some other tidbits bits are: to avoid the sun, stop retinols 2 weeks prior and inform the nurse of any new medications).
My First Appointment
Walking into the spa felt like an Art Boutique and a Doctor’s Office got together and decided to have a baby. It’s a great vibe, clean and hip. The nurses are professional, and I was asked about pregnancy, sun exposure, tanning and new medications. I was escorted to the laser room where I changed into a towel wrap. I was nervous, (not going to lie) but it was fast (and relatively painless). The pain was about a 5-6 on a scale of 1-10. The sensation felt like an electric rubber band snapping your skin with pinpoint precision.
Next Time
I’m a newbie to Flawless Med Spa and I’m just getting started. I want to add a little Botox to the lines between my eyebrows and the new Skin Vive Hydration treatment to give my face a little Va Voom before the Holidays.
