Most of the staff just returned from THE Aesthetics Show in Las Vegas over the weekend, armed with information about new technologies and treatments. We attended several trainings for the types of treatments that we already offer in order to make sure that we continue to stay at the top of our industry with the latest and most effective techniques. We also attended some sessions that enabled us to learn about new treatments on the market and what their success rates are.
One thing at the tradeshow itself that I noticed was that mixed in with the products and technologies that I expected to see, there were some items that seemed “too good to be true”, or even seemed a bit risky in the wrong hands. Even at a conference of this quality, with savvy practitioners and service providers in attendance, it’s still a buyer-beware market. That’s why it’s so important to do your homework and to ask lots of questions about the treatments and products you purchase from your med-spa, your doctor’s office and especially from places like the internet.
If someone tells you that you can administer Botox to yourself, you should definitely head the other direction! Products that come from other countries are not regulated by the FDA and are not necessarily the same products that you may be purchasing in the U.S.A. –even if the packaging looks the same. Items like derma-rollers/microneedlers can be dangerous if the needle length is too long and can be easily purchased on the Internet without any type of aesthetic or medical license. Just because you can buy it doesn’t mean you should.
