Revitalize Your Skin

Every day our skin is exposed to many harsh factors including the sun and its UV rays, general pollutants in the air, chemicals in products that come in contact with our faces, and numerous germs. Thankfully there is a practical, non-invasive treatment to help give our faces a healthy and youthful glow.

What Is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a cosmetic procedure that removes the top layers of the skin. It aims to remove fine wrinkles, reduce the appearance of acne scars, and make the skin look smooth and more radiant. Dermaplaning clears your pores and also removes peach fuzz that you may have on the sides of your face.

Sometimes called a ‘scalpel facial’, dermaplaning allows for new, healthy skin cells to the surface and stimulates collagenesis, which is the development of collagen. Collagen is responsible for making skin look hydrated and healthy, and unfortunately, the body produces less of it with age.

How Does Dermaplaning Work?

Dermaplaning is a gentle process that uses an exfoliating blade to skim dead skin cells and hair from the face. The sterile blade is held at a 45-degree angle and is dragged lightly over the skin removing old skin cells, scar tissue, and other debris. Dermaplaning is a painless procedure and uses no harsh chemicals. Typically the procedure is completed in under an hour.

Is There Any Downtime?

There is absolutely no downtime. Patients can have this procedure done at any time during the day and immediately return to their normal daily routines. Some may experience slight redness for several hours afterward, but this will quickly subside.

Am I A Good Candidate For Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a treatment that is safe for any skin type. Most people can have the procedure done with little risk of side effects. If you have sun damage, wrinkles, or dry, dull skin and want smooth, bright skin, dermaplaning could help. Dermaplaning minimizes future acne breakouts too.

However, if you have an active acne breakout or have open wounds on your face, dermaplaning may exacerbate discomfort. If you have received BOTOX or fillers recently, you should also avoid dermaplaning for at least a week, or until cleared by one of our aesthetic nurses.

What Are Results Like?

After dermaplaning, your skin will look rejuvenated, hydrated, and smooth. The tone, texture, and clarity of your skin will improve. The appearance of fine lines and wrinkles will diminish, making you look younger. If you suffer from hyperpigmentation, this too will be less prominent. You will also have cleaner, tinier pores. Overall you will look relaxed and brighter.

What Is Aftercare Like?

It is important to protect your skin from the sun always, but especially after dermaplaning. Wear sunscreen and hats, and stay in the shade as much as possible. Avoid using skincare products with retinol or exfoliating properties for at least a day after treatment. Makeup is safe to wear immediately after, but it’s not a bad idea to wait a day so your face can breathe.
