What Is Pico Laser Resurfacing?

Pico laser resurfacing is a popular choice for those who want younger-looking skin without expensive surgery or extensive downtime. Pico laser resurfacing is an innovative and effective laser skin treatment that lightens and removes imperfections in the top layer of dermal tissue, where most of your damage is most obvious.

It is a non-surgical, painless procedure that corrects fine lines and wrinkles, melasma, sun damage spots, acne scars, and more. Pico laser resurfacing also encourages the skin to produce more collagen and elastin, which is important. Collagen and elastin are what keep skin looking supple and healthy. Unfortunately, the body naturally produces less of these two proteins as one ages.

What Happens During The Procedure?

Sessions last between 15-45 minutes, depending on the scope of correction needed. Most people need a series of sessions to achieve their desired look. During a session, an aesthetician positions the laser over the target area and delivers highly concentrated pulses of energy to said area. The Pico laser does not use heat, and there is little to no discomfort during the process; however, a numbing cream and nitrous oxide is available upon request.

The Pico laser is a non-ablative fractional laser, which means it divides one laser beam into many microscopic zones. This allows for extremely precise treatment of damaged skin cells while leaving healthy skin cells untouched. Fractional lasers work both on the surface of the skin and in the subcutaneous layers underneath.

Is There Recovery Time Needed?

One of the best benefits of Pico laser resurfacing at Flawless Med Spa is that there’s no downtime. It is very common to be red and have a feeling of tightness after a treatment but this should subside in a few hours. Your skin should look completely normal by the next day but it is very important that you wear a medical grade sunscreen. Patients are often able to resume normal activities right after the treatment.
